SKOWHEGAN Landmark ‘eyesore’ to be restored

SKOWHEGAN — Edward Dillingham remembers playing in the upstairs apartment of the vintage Leavitt Block building at the corner of Commercial Street and Madison Avenue.
“I graduated with Loretta Hunnewell and Jenny Staples and used to swing on that support beam and watch the cars as I waited for the girls to get ready for school,” said the Skowhegan Area High School graduate.
Those kinds of memories are what drew Dillingham, a 41-year-old Florida resident formerly of Skowhegan, back to town this month to buy the 1881 wood structure that has sat vacant for at least 12 years and had fallen into disrepair.
